PARTITA 2 (Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker/FringeArts):

Anna Teresa De Keersmaeker and Boris Charmatz create a powerful structure, physically mapping time and space. With the powerful music of Bach’s Partita No. 2 played by Amendine Beyer, a density to the space is created. The complexity of Bach’s composition matched with Beyer’s dynamic live playing creates so much for De Keersmaeker and Charmatz to work off of. De Keersmaeker and Charmatz match the strong musical composition by creating clear and dynamic architecture and geometry in space. This paired with clear movement structure creates a strong counter point to the sound of Bach.

A clear rhythm is created for the audience.  De Keersmaeker and Charmatz continually revert back to an orbiting of the space that establishes neutrality but also works as a reminder of how time never stops. The simplicity of walking in a circle allows the viewer to establish a new form of linear thinking about time and space. Layers of movement add on to the circulation of space. Though the dancers break from the circular structure the audience holds on to that idea of space and physical rhythm. Each dancer is able to establish individuality while maintaining a clear relationship to each other, space, audience and music. De Keersmaekers clear vision and mapping stands so strongly along side Bach’s composition. PARTITA 2 shows the power of structure and how everything relates to the rhythm of life. <[FringeArts, 140 North Columbus Boulevard] November 1, 2015; fringearts.com/partita-2.
