BREAKING MY ECHO (Duende): 2017 Fringe review

“We don’t see things as they are, we see things as we are”—Anais Nin

duende-fringe-review-break-my-echoOn the dimly lighted stage in Performance Garage, Duende presents a raw, intense, intellectual and intuitive dance and music performance that shakes up the senses of the viewers. Is it the music that is making the dancer’s movement, or is it the dancers who are creating the music? Or is it us viewers who create the scene?

The highly talented artists of Duende and musicians from acclaimed new music groups So Percussion and yMusic explore “the nature of perspective”. Three pairs of composers and choreographers, Colby Damon and Alyssa Weinberg, Chloe Perkes and Gabriella Smith and Keila Perez-Vega and Jason Treuting, create three pieces of arts to the music Tierkries by Stockhausen. Every single moment of the performance is intuitive and astonishing. They exceed and the audience’s perspective and imaginations and introduce whole new possibilities of the performing art and of the way we observe our lives.
