With, “It was Mexico, but not your grandfather’s Mexico…” Chris Davis sets the tone for an enjoyably interactive, imaginative tour back in time to 1847 when the Mexican-American war would change both countries. Written and acted by Davis, directed by Mary Tuomanen, this solo show takes place in the minds of the audience as they are led around the storefront space of Los Amigos, a butcher shop, food market and restaurant. The intimate space makes it all the more fun and impactful as Davis marches patrons around as he elucidates war incidents, re-enacts strategies, and introduces food items, complete with a few clever plugs, in an entertaining, yet highly enlightening fashion.
Davis makes playful eye contact with his followers while coursing through events, stopping here and there to highlight pivotal moments and people in reexamining the importance of this long ago war, and what it really means to be a winner. The food is enjoyable too!
