[video] Previewing THE SYRINGA TREE at Theatre Horizon: Coming of age in apartheid

the-syringa-tree-theatre-horizonTHE SYRINGA TREE, Pamela Glen’s intimate story of the love between two families—one white, one black—in apartheid-era South Africa is usually presented as a one-woman show. Spanning four generations, the story is told by twenty-four characters—black and white; old and young; Xhosa, Afrikaans, Zulu and Jewish. Theatre Horizon’s new production of THE SYRINGA TREE uses two actors, one white (Kristyn Chouiniere) and one black (Alice M. Gatling), to fill the stage with the people, music, and verdant countryside of South Africa during this turbulent time.

The actors discuss the play in this video preview. [Theatre Horizon, 401 DeKalb Street, Norristown, PA] October 16-November 9, 2014; theatrehorizon.org.
