Art Unleashed – Year Five • Hamilton Hall University of the Arts

The University of the Arts continues Art Unleashed, which is celebrating its fifth year. It is a showcase of the many talents of the UArts students, faculty, and alumni, as well as an opportunity to purchase the original works created by the emerging and established artists. There will be everything on sale from jewelry, to ceramics, photography, crafts, furniture, painting, sculpture, and illustration. The exhibition and sale is also the largest university-wide fundraiser in benefit of the Sam S. McKeel Promising Young Artists Scholarship Fund.

 

PennDesign Fine Arts Lecture Series: Dawoud Bay • Institute of Contemporary Art

Join the Institute of Contemporary Art as they host the next lecture in the PennDesign Fine Art Series, Dawoud Bay. Bay has been working for over thirty years, photographing the people within marginalized communities, dealing with issues of representation within their own social and historical spaces. He will be discussing his process, ideas, and obstacles that informed the work.

Sloughing, Sloughy, Slought: A Soiree with DJ Spooky • The Slought Foundation

The Slought hosts a conceptual dance party in celebration of their 11 1/2 birthday and the launch of their new identity, dropping the ‘Foundation’ from their name. They have grown past their precocious beginnings, bringing in new audiences by challenging themselves and engaging the community. There will be refreshments and snacks, including absinthe and sangria, with DJ Spooky playing a mix from the Slought archives.

 

Sonic Measures Performance • The Print Center

The Print Center is hosting Sonic Measures Performance, based on a seminar course designed by Terry Adkins, a former professor at PAFA, who was interested in exploring the relationship and the limitations of sculpture and sound. Presented in partnership with their exhibition Matt Neff: Second SITE, there will be performances by Marie Alarcon, Edward Cohen, Charles Hall, Daniel Haun, Sam Horn, Martina Merlo, Paz Ortuzar, Derek Rigby, and Evan Silverstein.

 

Reclaim: Art Pops Up in Frankford • The Art Gallery at City Hall

Join the new pop-up art gallery, Destination Frankford Gallery, for their opening reception and block party for three separate exhibitions titled Reclaim, Rediscover, and Reanimate on Saturdays throughout the spring. They are going to be transforming a vacant storefront into a new destination for locals, artists, and art lovers as part of the Frankford revitalization project, inspired by the placemaking movement. There will be live music, food trucks, and local crafts available for sale.
