Know KING JOHN: Helen Mirren and other stars promote Philly production of little-known Shakespeare play

Revolution Shakespeare has put together a truly all-star line-up for its promotional video for KING JOHN, this year’s fall Shakespeare production in Hawthorne Park.

“Many people don’t know KING JOHN,” says Griffin Stanton-Ameison, artistic director of the Philly company. “But most people know Oscar-winner Dame Helen Mirren.” And there is Mirren, promoting the production with a line from Shakespeare’s rarely produced political work: “Be as great in act as you have been in thought.”

Mirren is followed by a host of other famous actors—Brian Anthony Wilson (The Wire, Creed), Patti Lupone (Tony-winner, Evita), and Oscar nominated David Strathairn (Oscar nominated for Good Night and Good Luck)—delivering some of the Bard’s most beautiful lines.

Check out the video below; and come to KING JOHN in September for pre-show events, food trucks, trip-hop music, and voter registration booths. Plus some great Shakespeare.
