Fringe preview: The Hunchback of Notre Dame, A Mute Play: Trailer

Coming off the heels of their sold-out run of Bathtub Moby-Dick in last year’s Fringe Festival and a successful world premiere of Grimms’ Juniper Tree, The Renegade Company presents a new work, The Hunchback of Notre Dame…A Mute Play, as its offering for the 2014 Philadelphia Fringe Festival.

Conceived and directed by Michael Durkin, Hunchback fits into The Renegade Company mold of finding new one-of-a-kind ways to tell classic stories. This speechless, movement-based re-imagination of Victor Hugo’s novel is infused with the style and aesthetics of the expressionist silent films of the 1920s and 30s. Check out their cool trailer:

“Told through the deafened and disfigured perspective of Quasimodo, Renegade transforms Victor Hugo’s novel into a nightmarish expressionist landscape begging the question, what does it mean to be a monster?” Sounds like another Fringe hit for Renegade.

The Hunchback of Notre Dame…A Mute Play runs September 11-22, 2014, as part of the 2014 Philadelphia Fringe Festivalfringearts.com/event/the-hunchback-of-notre-dame-a-mute-play-11.
