A Valentines Playdate in Philadelphia

Playdaters, courtesy Lens Spark Photography“First dates are stressful,” says the postcard for Matchbox Theatre Projects Valentines Day special,The Playdaters. As we all know, the 100th date can be just as fraught.

Whether it’s your first or your 1,000th date, this play is a good bet for Valentines night. Written by Milwaukee-based playwright Neil HavenThe Playdaters received rave reviews on runs in Wisconsin and Chicago (Haven’s “nose for apt situations and gift for one-liners.. deftly establish character even as they make us laugh… it’s so damned funny.”—Third Coast Digest.) In Philadelphia, it’s on a one night only run, February 14, at 8:30 and 10 pm.

The Playdaters stars Sean Bradley and Griffin Stanton-Ameisen as roommates exploiting a dating website to play a game of pranks on unsuspecting women (Dana Kreitz and Amanda Bernhardt). Just as the characters break the rules of the dating game, the play questions the rules of conventional romantic comedy. Look for adult content and juvenile shenanigans, yay!

The Playdaters is staged upstairs at Plays and Players theater, in the intimate space adjacent to Quigs Pub. The bar is running a drink special ($3 Valentines shots) the night of the show. Sounds like a great date. Get tickets here.
