Many adolescents have ideas for a horror movie, some might go as far a having their friends dress up for a home video. Emily DiPrimio went a few steps further. She raised $32,000 on Kickstarter and put together a cast and crew for full production of her horror movie CARVER, which will open the Second Annual Reel East Film Festival on August 21, 2015 at the historic Ritz Theatre in Oaklyn, NJ.

In the tradition of the past returning to haunt the present, Carver features a group of teens who regret a despicable act they committed years earlier. Their actions had left three dead, and now, on the anniversary of the crimes, an ominous carved pumpkin is found at each of their homes. Revenge may come in human or nonhuman form in this suspenseful tale of dread by a fresh new voice in filmmaking.

“Carver is a great example of DIY filmmaking,” festival director Matthew Sorrento told Phindie. “It shows what talent, some gumption, and a great resource like Kickstarter can lead to, even for a teenage artist.”

CARVER will be one of many features filling out the festival, which runs August 21-23, 2015. South Jersey native DiPrimio will introduce the film, with a Q and A to follow. An Audience Award, will be presented on the final day of the festival. See reeleastfilm.org for the full line-up.
