Feeling a longing for the Fringe and its presentations of unusual short performance? SmokeyScout ProductionsNice and Fresh performing arts series is like a mini Fringe Festival each month. Returning for a second season in four shows October 3 and 4, the series features original, new works of theater and dance at venues in Northwest Philly.

Each month, a handful of companies or artists perform 10-15 minute pieces, often created specifically for the series. Previous shows have included early iterations of Annie Wilson’s Fringe hit Lovertits and a version of Almanac Dance Circus Theatre’s Communitas, as well as short plays from some of Philadelphia’s best playwrights: Josh McIlvain (cofounder of SmokeyScout), John Rosenberg, and Chris Davis.

The second season kicks off with two dance pieces (Are you not your own by Barbara Tait and Space-Time Suite by Katie C. Sopoci Drake), a new play by McIlvain (The History of Rock n Roll), and a New York City comedy troupe of writers from Late Night with Jimmy Fallon! [Moving Arts of Mount Airy, Greene Street and Carpenter Lane] October 3-4, 2014; smokeyscout.com.
