The firstlings of their heart: MACBETH marks Revolution Shakespeare’s first full production

Revolution Shakespeare was founded in August 2013 with the official aim of adding “to the scope of Shakespeare performance and education in the Philadelphia area”. So far, that mission has been filled mostly with one-off readings and performances: a staged reading of Henry VI, Part III, an evening of Shakespeare scenes and sonnets for Valentine’s Day, and an all-female reading of King Lear. This summer saw the new company engage in a more ambitious collaboration with the Philadelphia Museum of Art: Five Kings, Orson Welles’s adaptation of Shakespeare’s Henriad. This fall sees Revolution Shakespeare’s first full production: a New Orleans-inspired MACBETH, from October 1-12.

Macbeth_eventHeld at one of Philly’s newest public parks, Hawthorne Park at 12th and Catharine Streets, the event is FREE to the public. Founded by Griffin Stanton Ameisen, one of Philadelphia’s best young Shakespeare actors, Revolution Shakespeare draws on some of the best theatrical talent in the city. MACBETH will feature Jared Michael Delaney and Aimé Donna Kelly as MacBeth and Lady Macbeth, as well as Corinna Burns, Holly Grum, Ben Harter-Murphy, Kevin Hoffman, Dana Kreitz, Emily Moylan, Brandon J. Pierce, Sarah Rachel Schol, and James Tolbert.

Stanton Ameisen, who will also perform, says the company “could not be more excited to present MACBETH as our first production in beautiful Hawthorne Park. Bring a blanket and get ready to watch a bloody tragedy unfold as you’ve never seen it.” Directed by Allison Heishman, the show will also feature fire, local New Orleans style-brass band the Red Hot Ramblers, and local food trucks serving menus inspired by the production.
