Keep an eye (and an ear) out for Shannon Agnew. Her new show, IF I WERE A DRAG QUEEN, I WOULD BE FAMOUS, is a multimedia cabaret filled to the brim with loving recreations of major divas. She is funny as hell, manages some fantastic singing, and pulls off so many impersonations that it doesn’t seem right to call it a one-person show.

She nails the burbly banter of Judy Garland, even while ad-libbing banter with the crowd. Her Billie Holiday is mesmerizing. And her Bernadette Peters seems to come out of nowhere to take over the show. There are some minor problems, including a microphone stand that’s placed between the projector and the screen (its shadow mars many shots, including a lovely one of Daniel Craig’s posterior), and a duet with herself that doesn’t quite work. But her irreverent wit and undeniable talent earn a standing ovation. She’s not famous, not yet, but give her some time.
