[37] ALL THE SEX I’VE EVER HAD (Mammalian Diving Reflex): Fringe review

ALL THE SEX I’VE EVER HAD (Mammalian Diving Reflex) 2013 Philadelphia Fringe reviewAt Plays & Players, a serene air of sophistication, and a soothing nostalgia of productions past blanket the crowd of the fully seated theater. The lights are dimmed just slightly, and a disco ball starts spinning, accompanied by groovy music. Suddenly, the scene changes. Everyone is more propped up in their seats, looking around, and smiling out of curiosity, as senior citizens sit at a long table with microphones. The scene now resembles a sort of stylish press conference, with more nervous giggles audible in the background. The silver circles of reflected light from the disco ball continue to dance off of all the intrigued faces in the room, as a host gets on stage to speak. The audience are forced to repeat a “gossip pledge”, one that ensues that like Vegas, what happens at ALL THE SEX I’VE EVER HAD stays at ALL THE SEX I’VE EVER HAD.

So what can I say? The sexual and romantic histories of all panelists are discussed fully, and even intertwine. No topic is untouchable: Rendezvous at city docks, hotels, in bathrooms, and at therapists’ offices. “Rimming”, scheming, and orgies. Unlike one panelist’s “rotten and empty” first time, this discussion is anything but rotten, empty, or even awkward, due to the sense of freedom, open-mindedness, and bravery the panelists project. The celebration continues as decades of sexual freedom and adventure pass, and there may even be firecrackers that go off on stage…but really, thanks to the “gossip pledge”, that’s all I can say. See for yourself. [Plays & Players] September 13-14, 2013, http://fringearts.ticketleap.com/this-is-not-a-theater-all-the-sex-ive-ever-had.

  1. Hey Ms. Haber,

Thank you for keeping true to the pledge. Our experience in Philadelphia was exceptional. The generosity of both the performers we worked with here and the audience took the show to new and exciting heights. After having presented in five other countries around the world, I’m pleased to say that Philadephians really know how to rim. We hope to see you again sometime soon. You are one sexy bunch of muthafuckas.

    xo
