From a fledgling weekend-long event, Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival (PWTF) has become an established part of the city’s theater calendar.

The third annual event headlined by the original musical Hear Me War written by Sarah Galante with co-composer Jaime Jarett. Directed by Elaina Di Monaco, the show explores the current dysfunctional political climate as it follows a group of feminists on a march to Washington, DC, to dismantle the patriarchy.

Produced through The Women’s Playwriting Cooperative, Hear Me War underwent a yearlong development including a series of rehearsals, revisions and performances. “Being able to find a home for Hear Me War in a space dedicated to the support and exposure of female artists has been an invaluable artistic experience” says Galante. “In working with the Philadelphia Women’s Theatre Festival, we have found a space of comfort, acceptance, and an unrelenting persistence in finding the truth within our story.”

The festival is committed to “creating opportunities for women in theater by fostering an environment that thrives on collaboration”. This year’s festival also includes three staged readings, an opening night cabaret, and a women’s comedy showcase. Festival performances take place August 2-6, 2017, at Caplan Studio Theater at the University of the Arts on South Broad.
